About Me & My work

The people I work with tend to put everyone else’s comfort and happiness above their own.

They sometimes find themselves procrastinating, which leads to a cycle of self-judgment, guilt, and overwhelm.

Often times, they’ve had an experience that was really painful and impactful.

Maybe it was a parent with addiction or anger problems.  Maybe it was someone they knew or dated who didn’t respect their boundaries.

Even if they’ve had the best life ever, there’s still something keeping them from being able to fully enjoy it.

In case you want to know the official stuff:

I earned my undergrad degree at Texas A&M University, my Masters degree from The University of Saint Thomas in Houston, TX, and am now a Licensed Professional Counselor in the State of Texas.

questions you might have for me

(+ answers)

What is the cost per session?

Current rates for new clients:

Initial Phone Consultation: Free

50 minute Sessions: $175

Do you take my insurance?

Session fees are due in full at each appointment.

Many clients are able to get reimbursed for partial and full fees for our work together by using their out-of-network insurance benefits.

I will provide you with a superbill (fancy insurance term for "receipt") so you can seek possible reimbursement from your insurance company.

You can read more about how to understand your out-of-network insurance benefits by clicking here.

What are my options if I have difficulty paying your session fees?

I don't want cost to be a barrier for you getting services.

If you have a Flex Savings Account or Health Savings Account,  you might be able to use those funds for session fees.  Just make sure you check on the rules for your individual FSA and HSA prior to booking a session.

You can also contact your CPA to ask whether or not counseling sessions fees can be included as a medical deduction on your annual tax return.

If neither of the above options work for you, check out the other counselors at The Joy Effect who offer reduces rates.

What are your office hours?

All sessions are by appointment only.

Clients have access to online scheduling 24/7 through the client portal.

My regular office hours are:

Monday 2:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
Tuesday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Wednesday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
Thursday 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

If you need services outside of these hours, check out The Joy Effect's other counselors who offer morning, evening, and weekend sessions at reduced rates.

Do you work with children or teens?

Yes, while my main focus is working with adults, I do also work with children and teens (it's hard to leave that teacher and school counselor background behind!).

If you’re interested in therapy for a child under the age of 12, I often recommend parent or family sessions in conjunction with your child's sessions so you can learn how to support your child in his/her new growth.

These sessions would be in addition to your child’s sessions, but can be substituted for a child’s session in order to accommodate your budget.

When working with children, I utilize Brainspotting and  Sandtray in the therapy sessions in order to make the therapy developmentally appropriate.

I am not a Registered Play Therapist.

Do you offer online counseling?

Yes, I offer online therapy for ages 18+, and can work with you in that capacity as long as you are residing in the state of Texas.

I do not offer online counseling for anyone under the age of 18 unless they are a regular in-office client and there are circumstances (surgery, weather, etc.) that keep them from getting into the office that day.

Do you offer faith-based counseling?

It is important to me that the work we do together be in line with your personal value system.

If you have specific beliefs that influence your mental wellbeing, I can include your beliefs in your therapy work.

Do you work with couples?

I work mainly with individuals.

If you’re currently in couples’ counseling, I am available to coordinate your treatment with that counselor in order to create a team approach to helping your relationship thrive.

This service is provided at no additional cost to you.

How do I get started?

The first step to working with me is to book your free phone call online.

Since the relationship between a therapist and a client is part of the healing process, it's important that we are a good fit.

The call is also an opportunity for you to get answers to any questions you still have after browsing this website.

Plus, booking the call online means I call at a time that's convenient for you, and we can avoid phone tag.

You can expect the call to last between 10 and 20 minutes.

Once you've booked the call, you will receive an email confirmation and a brief (3-5 minute) questionnaire to complete prior to the call.

You can schedule your call by clicking here.
